Mars Attacks Alien Maquette Restoration
Restoration of an original maquette of a Mars Attacks alien from Tim Burton’s 1996 sci-fi comedy.
Mars Attacks was Tim Burton’s tribute to the science fiction genre of the 1960’s, starring Jack Nicholson, Pierce Brosnan, Natalie Portman, Michael J. Fox and Martin Short, just to name a few. Maquettes of the Mars Attacks aliens were created early on when production considered doing the aliens as stop motion puppets before settling on CGI (Computer Generated Imagery).
This alien statue had sustained shipping damage to his left hand, his head and his right cheek. All of the damaged pieces were present so it was up to the TSD crew to reattach them as though the damage had never occurred.
We carefully reattached all of the broken piece making sure that out repairs were nearly invisible. Many of the breaks were clean breaks which made the need for repainting very minimal.
