Our restoration of an original Critters movie prop puppet from the 1986 film Critters. Made by our wonderfully talented friends at the Chiodo Brothers studios, this movie prop was fairly stable when it arrived. That said, the Crite creature puppet definitely showed the signs of aging common with foam latex props.
Our approach emphasizes maintaining the integrity of the original and wherever possible preserving the original “feel” of the piece and evidence of age and use in a production. With the Critter puppet’s restoration, we wanted to maintain the “feel” of the original sculpt and paint by the extremely talented Chiodo Brothers. This meant making our patches match their wonderfully wrinkly style of sculpting. Once the piece was patched and the textures matched, we in-painted the restored areas. As always, only the repaired areas were repainted, leaving as much of the original paint work intact as possible. With the client’s input, we also designed a custom acrylic base & plaque to beautifully display this original movie prop.
