MAN CAVE - Room One - Movie Prop Display Room
A personal movie prop museum! The ceiling disappears thanks to a "fade to black" paint effect at the tops of the walls
Wood, metal, rock and more give this room depth & character. The rock island acts as a centerpiece for the room
View from the entrance. The Media Room beacons you from a distance as a statue stands guard at the arch
A large alcove houses a one of a kind furniture unit made to look like rock & metal. Stalactites ominously hang overhead
This towering unit is 8' tall, 5' wide & 3' deep. A flash pic changes the mood lighting but was needed to capture it all!
Like the theme room itself, layers of details like pipe, faux metal paint, weathering and "age" give character to this unit
The faux rusted metal treatment w/added rivets runs throughout the entire movie prop room. It even looks real in person!
This unique shelf is a sculpture in its own right. We love to mix sculpture and furniture to create unusual display solutions
A rock pedestal with riveted "metal" strips at the base to give the impression that the floor was trimmed around it
A decorative & detailed faux rock formation for the back corner. Again, riveted metal strips trim out the pieces
A backlight reveals a "face" in the formation. The face is relatively subtle until the lights go out around it
A closer look at the rock island, built to display the a custom mannequin from 13 Ghosts & a dress from the Ring Two
From the other side, we glimpse pods from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Sculpted stalactites hang above.
The Pods sit in a "puddle" with added mosses for extra layers of theming. Custom plaque was designed by TSD
Getting closer to the Media Room. A brighter lit shot shows some of the rivets, rust and details of the movie prop room
A closer look at one of the storage/closet doors. Themed elements were added on-site to help them blend in.

ABOUT THIS ROOM
This room is the "outer room" and needs to be walked through to reach the Home Cinema / Media Room (glimpsed through the girder arch in some photos).
The gritty, dark, imposing feel, with rusted metal walls and craggy gray rock outcroppings and furniture, draws inspiration from the horror genre (Wesley's favorite).
This is primarily a "museum" space to display the bulk of Wesley's incredible collection of original movie props and wardrobe. Our work needed to compliment and enhance the display of these pieces and not outshine them.
This room is meant to feel cooler and almost "outdoor" where the Home Cinema / Media Room feels much more warm and "indoor".
Everything has age - a sense of weather and time. Walls in this room were treated to look like old, rusted metal plates, with rivets and layers of rust and dirt. Dramatic lighting and paint treatments like a fade-to-black at the tops of the walls and stalactites, make the ceiling disappear adding an ominous feel.
The rock formations each have a character of their own. Our "backstory" is that many years ago, a great adventurer settled in this cave and built these rooms within. He found certain formations interesting and built around them.
Riveted faux copper strips of floor trim around the base of all our custom sculpted rocks give the impression of the wood floor being cut out around "existing" rock formations, reinforcing that layer of story and making these pieces seem a part of the room while remaining movable.
And of course, where there's a great adventurer, there must be a "Captain's Quarters". In some shots, through an arched doorway of "girders" you can glimpse the warmer, more peaceful media room. Get a closer look in the Media Room / Home Cinema Gallery!

A dramatic look into the Media Room. Unique ceiling elements, stalactites, pipes... lots of detail in there too!
A closer look at the riveted faux copper floor trim that borders all rock elements we created for these theme rooms.
Looking through the stalactites at the movie props & some of the custom mannequins by Tom Spina Designs
The gritty feel of this theme room required more than your average everyday light dimmers!
Another creation for this room - faux metal "pipe & plate" pedestal to display a book from 13 Ghosts.
Hanging down from the darkness, stalactites in the center of the ceiling are the perfect accent to the center island
Dramatic lighting and careful prop placement create wonderful shadows throughout this room.
