Ghostbusters Slimer Maquette Restoration
Ghostbusters Slimer Maquette Restoration
GHOSTBUSTERS!
- Original Slimer Maquette -
Our conservation, restoration and custom display for this production artifact from a classic movie.
Age and handling over time had damaged the fragile arms and skin of this instantly recognizable prop. When he arrived at our studio, Slimer's arms had detached and his hands were badly damaged. His skin was cracked and peeling as well.
THE TOM SPINA DESIGNS
DIFFERENCE...
With greatest respect and care, our artists carefully reassembled the arms, adding reinforcement to help defend against gravity over time. As is always our goal, we maintained as much original material as we could, and in the end, the hands and arms remain very much original, with some small patches to blend over gaps where pieces had been lost to time.
The skin was reaffixed to his body piece by piece, with only the largest cracks being blended, so that the piece would retain its original look, feel and age.
A classy, museum style thick acrylic case completes the display and protects this important and iconic prop character.

BEFORE AND AFTER
a pic highlighting the repaired arms as well as the subtle work mending this original Ghostbusters maquette's cracked skin surface
Restoration artist Mike Thomas, carefully working on this rare original movie production artifact
During the work, we carefully re-attached loose skin and blended the larger cracks, stabilizing the piece without erasing its age or history
We managed to save quite a bit of material from the original hands. We recreated some small connections to "fill in the visual blanks"
The completed restoration maintains an aged look, but displays beautifully
Another view shows our signature approach to balance restoration
A custom acrylic case and plaque complete the display and will help protect the movie prop in the future
