Custom Displays – Two Headless Horseman Costumes

Heads Will Roll! A pair of themed displays for two screen used Headless Horseman costumes from Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow

Our client brought us TWO original, screen-worn Headless Horseman costumes from the Tim Burton film. We were commissioned to create individual themed displays that all worked together with the client’s other Sleepy Hollow costumes to form a cohesive look. We discussed all of the different options for the displays always taking into account budget, a client’s preferences, and the specific needs for each display.

While these two horseman costumes look similar at a glance, each has a very different level of wear and tear or “distressing” and the elaborate costumes have many layers and large, heavy capes. We created two separate mannequins, custom-made to fit the specific sizing and needs of each individual costume.

The more heavily distressed Headless Horseman costumes was missing his original boots, rather than creating replica boots, our client had the idea to create a display piece that would disguise the fact that he was missing a costume element. We took their idea and sketched up a faux stone wall that could also be used to display a Sleepy Hollow town sign created from the production’s original molds.

The second display was made for the less-distressed costume. This one would hold a prop axe in both hands for an truly intimidating look!

Once each body form was completed Patrick Louie, Matthew Beagan, Sara Mecozzi, and Julianne Scotese began hand sculpting the custom display bases out of EPS foam. Once the pieces were coated they were handed over to Samantha Martino, Mykaleah Young and Daisy Julca to give them their final scenic paint scheme. Using different scenes from the film as inspiration we gave each base it’s own unique identity, while maintaining a cohesive style across the displays.
