Hellraiser 2022 Pinhead Costume and Puzzle Display – Not Your Average Mannequin!
Many heavy silicone parts made up this wild and incredible Hellraiser 2022 Pinhead aka The Priest costume. When collectors get costumes that just can’t work with a standard retail mannequin, they come to our experts to create something bespoke for their film-used treasures. Many elements would need to be blended together to create the incredible display shown here.
The facial appliance was stored on a relatively rough foam core, derived from the actor’s face cast. At our NY studio, Samantha Martino refined that core and applied the silicone pieces to the updated head. She also sculpted lids and eyes and re-attached dozens of the iconic pinhead pins! While the client had a large number of original pins from the film, we had to create an addition 3 dozen pins to complete the head (ouch!), matching both the pin shaft and the pearl toppers.
A custom mannequin was crafted to properly fill out the original silicone dress-like costume and sleeves, as well as the sculpted boots. Pierre Briel and Patrick Louie sculpted the body to fit the costume perfectly. A particular challenge was to pose the arms and create hands to incorporate a screen-used puzzlebox prop that our client also sourced from the movie. The hands were made using lifecasts of one of our team members and then modified to better support the prop. Samantha applied the original production silicone hand-back appliances to these new hands and blended them into the display.
In the film, gaps in the silicone showed through to “musculature” that wasn’t present with this costume. Melissa Ocampo, our paint specialist, painted these exposed muscle elements onto the mannequin in any areas that would show through, making this incredibly creepy custom display visually complete!
