Planet of the Apes - Mannequins, Prop and Costume Displays
Get your stinkin' paws off...
...these original props and costumes from the Planeet of the Apes films!
All of us at TSD have been fans of the classic Planet of the Apes films and TV show for years. We're honored to have had the chance to create dramatic custom mannequins and displays for some of the original costumes and props from those films.
These incredible props and costumes span a number of the original films as well as the Tim Burton remake from 2001. Each of these films had a truly distinct style and gave us ample visuals to draw inspiration from while creating these custom mannequins and displays.
Our Planet of the Apes projects spanned custom mannequins and body forms, custom sculpture and theme prop fabrication, movie prop displays and plaques and more.
TSD artists Mike Thomas, Patrick Louie, Tom Spina and others created these displays.
Special note: the Zaius and Caesar heads were created by Apemania.
Tom Spina Designs creates incredible custom mannequins and themed movie prop and costume displays like no others! These are just a few examples of our one of a kind work.

Roddy McDowall's original Ape-o-naut boots, shown on a custom made themed display stand with custom metal plaque.
Custom mannequin for an original Zaius costume from Beneath the Planet of the Apes. We also modified the head (which the client provided) & created the bench & towel to enhance the display
ANOTHER chimp, with a more menacing (yet still original) stunt mask. A similar themed base and more aggressive ape pose complete this display
For both of these ape mannequins, TSD created custom glass eye inserts to simulate the look of an actor wearing the mask and costume.
This is how the Chimp costumes arrived at our studio... from a pile of wardrobe in a box to a lifesized, life-like character! Quite a dramatic before and after!
A closer look at a themed display stand, created via carved and coated foam (EPS) for a natural rock/sand look. A custom metal plaque adorns the front
A moment from the film captured... an original Orangutan costume (with head provided by the client) with a themed base referencing the scene where Taylor attempts to write in the sand.
Though the stone head here is a replica, we created a themed "ape rock" base to help display it proudly alongside the client's other original POTA props and costumes
An original Chimp jumpsuit from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, completed to resemble Caesar with a detailed faux cement themed base
Inspired by actual ape "furniture" from the movie, we created this rustic and unique display for a chimp bib/collar and arm bands
